What makes our coffee tables made of reclaimed wood so extraordinary?

Good question, but very easy to answer.
A large part of our coffee tables is made from recycled wood. The wood used is usually between 70 and 100 years old and comes from old houses and bridges on the islands Java and Bali in Indonesia, where we have all our furniture prefabricated in small family businesses. Only our carpenters in Germany create extraordinary coffee tables from the prefabricated components. The design is also extraordinary. Every coffee table originates from our ideas. We travel between 6 and 8 times a year to our partners and collaboratively develop new designs and concepts for your living room and dining room.

Extraordinary design from nature, the coffee tables made of tree slices

Many inventions arose from ideas inspired by nature.
This is also true for our coffee tables, as we design Coffee tables made from tree slices with the shapes that nature has given us. We take it a step further here. Truly extraordinary coffee tables are made from irregular tree slices. Natural growths and holes in the surface of a tree slice are adorned by our carpenters with glass tops. The result is a coffee table whose design was dictated by nature, refined by our workshop team, and unmatched in its extraordinary nature. Small works of art made of wood.
The topic of sustainability also plays a major role. Not a single one of the tree slices we use for our coffee tables comes from freshly cut trees. We only use leftover wood,… so Tree slices made from tree stumps., which was already cut down decades ago when garden furniture made of Teak wood was all the rage and entire forests were flattened for it. These areas are being reforested today. So tree roots and tree stumps are removed from the ground to make way for new vegetation.

Of course, all wooden products from GERKEN Wohndesign are imported according to the requirements of the EU Timber Trade Regulation The certificates we provide (FLEGT) are individually checked by the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE - Trading in wood) for each incoming container.
