As you can see, the tabletop consists of various glued wooden panels (root wood from teak), whose tree edges have largely remained natural. First, a tabletop for the Dining table Expression is created from wood with the most diverse, naturally shaped curves, distortions, and tree edges, which is finally artistically decorated with interesting glass inlays. The dining table Expression and the topic of sustainability

We are often asked where the wood for our dining tables comes from, as the topic of sustainability is increasingly present today.
We are happy to provide you with some more information on this.

About 95 % of all tables from our house are made from recycled wood or from waste wood. Recycled wood is wood that had a different use before being utilized for one of our dining tables or coffee tables. Waste wood, on the other hand, is wood that was disposed of as residual material from a production (e.g., furniture), or it is wood that is taken from the soil as part of reforestation to make room for new tree growth. Both types of wood, recycled wood and waste wood, have no application in the industrial furniture industry and, if not simply disposed of, are usually processed into chips and charcoal.

IMPORTANT: However, we believe that unique furniture can also be made from these beautiful materials and work with some small family businesses for this purpose. These businesses collaborate with us to create these wonderful dining tables and coffee tables before we perfect the semi-finished material into a dining table in our in-house workshop.

A dining table with a live edge? It can be done differently!

One Dining table with live edge doesn't always have to be linear. We find a straight live edge on a dining table rather boring at GERKEN Wohndesign. An interesting look arises when the shapes created by nature are preserved and their various variations in form and structure are emphasized with additional materials. By using handcrafted glass inlays, we allow a unique glimpse into the history of the tree. Every look at the dining table becomes a little special.
