Surface wood: Brushed and waxed

The Wooden table DEEP ISLAND consists of a table top made of recycled teak wood that is approximately 10 cm thick (solid). The surface of the table top has been lightly brushed to achieve a natural feel. Finally, the top has been sealed with a high-quality furniture wax. If you prefer an absolutely low-maintenance wood surface, we will gladly paint your dream table with a satin matte furniture lacquer.

The table leg in the shape of a crescent moon in industrial design is made of raw steel and has also been handcrafted. The stable construction ensures a wobble-free stand. Alternatively, we also have this table leg made of brushed stainless steel.

What types of wood does GERKEN Wohndesign use for the wooden tables?

Good question,... and very easy to answer.
We use everything that is demonstrably sustainable. Primarily, our choice of wood types for our wooden tables is based on recycled wood. Typically, recycled teak wood from old houses, bridges, and power poles from the islands Java and Bali is used. The wood is several decades (generations) old, well-seasoned, and could certainly tell great and interesting stories due to its age.
In addition to recycled wood for wooden tables from GERKEN Wohndesign, we also use wood from fruit trees. Fruit trees, such as the Suar, the tamarind or the Lychee, are cultivated trees that no longer bear fruit due to their age. In such cases, old trees are reforested and replaced with new trees. Since the wood from fruit trees is rarely used in industry, it is usually processed into charcoal. However, we believe that we can also create beautiful wooden tables from the wood of fruit trees.
