What height suits me best?

Simply orient yourself to the seat height of your couch. The coffee table should be roughly at the same height or a little bit lower. Generally, coffee tables that are 2–5 cm lower or higher than the sofa look the most pleasant. This way, you will be able to comfortably place glasses, books, or the remote control without having to twist yourself.

When can the living room table be high or low?

Of course, there are exceptions that we should also consider here. Perhaps you use the table more often for working or eating, in this case, the coffee table height can be at the height of the sofa or a bit above it. If you have a lounge sofa with very low cushions, then a table with a height of 30 to 35 cm also looks really good.
So it also depends on how you use your coffee table,… but generally, you can apply the „2-5 cm lower-or-higher formula.“.

So,… in small rooms, low tables often look airier. A small room with a large coffee table quickly appears overloaded. If you have a solid sofa or rustic furniture, then a table with approximately the same height looks better visually. For delicate sofas, a slightly lower table is preferred, as it appears lighter.

A table that appears too high quickly becomes annoying and obscures parts of the couch. A table that is too low may sometimes look stylish and is somewhat more modern, but in everyday life, a table that is too low is often impractical.
